Phuket, also known as “The pearl of the Andaman” is Thailand’s largest island, and is located almost 900 kilometers south of Bangkok. The islands interior is mostly mountainous, while its west coast has a number of magnificent long sandy beaches and lots of nightlife. For centuries, the main source of income for the island was tin mining.

Now, tourism and rubber have made Phuket the wealthiest province of the country. The 2004 tsunami badly damaged Phuket, mainly the beach resorts on the west side of the island. Since then, Phuket has fully recovered and a tsunami warning system has been put in place.

Besides the swimming and relaxing on the beach there is plenty to do for everyone in Phuket. Of course there is the snorkeling and diving off the many islands surrounding Phuket, sailing, watching Muay Thai boxing games or shopping in the large Jungceylon shopping center in Patong or in the countless souvenir shops along the beaches.

Cryptocurrencies have taken the world by storm. Since Bitcoin was launched in 2009, more than 10,000 different crypto projects have sprung up, some of which have witnessed an exponential rise in popularity and value. As such, the global market cap of the crypto industry currently stands at a whopping $1 trillion. This growth has led more and more people to pour money into these digital assets.

Singapore is one of the most crypto-friendly countries in Southeast Asia. It is also one of the world's most stable economies and is a hub for fintech companies. The country encourages innovation, which can be seen in its pro-crypto stance.

Capital gain tax is not levied on cryptocurrencies. Individuals and corporates having cryptocurrency funds are also exempt from taxation. There are currently 195 countries all over the world, and many people want to have the opportunity to visit and travel across all of these countries. However, because of visa requirements, not everyone can move freely when they travel.

Some countries have a more lenient visa policy, while others have made it harder to obtain a tourist visa. Several countries do not issue tourist visas due to safety and political reasons. Some countries are under a totalitarian regime and are closed off to the rest of the world.

Here is a list of the hardest countries to visit:

Russia

One thing that makes the visa application process to Russia challenging is the many questions in the application form- especially if you are an American citizen since you have to answer double the number of questions. To get your Russian visa approved, you must also list every single trip you took in the last ten years, with details where you went, when, and how long you stayed. If you’ve traveled often, this part may be the most difficult for you. However, if you fill in the visa application correctly and provide all the required information you can get a visa to visit Russia.

Cuba

This country is particularly difficult to visit for American citizens. If you are American, you cannot enter the country for tourist purposes, you must belong to one of the 11 categories of authorized travel. If you do get permission to enter the country, you will receive a pink Tourist Card– different from the Green Tourist Card that is issued to other nationalities.

Iran

Visas to Iran are hard to get mostly because you need to have a verification code before you apply for a visa. This authorization code is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Iran, but an official Iranian travel agency has to apply for the code on your behalf. However, due to the usage of eVisas, the process for a tourist visa for Iran has become much easier. Additionally, several countries can now apply for a visa on arrival (with pre-approval).

Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is one of the least visited countries in the world due to having a rigid visa policy. It’s particularly difficult to get a visa mostly because it requires everyone to apply for a visa, the only exception includes visitors from some specific parts of Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan and some visitors with diplomatic passports.

Chad

Only 14 countries have visa-free access to Chad, the rest of the world has to apply for a visa to enter the country. However, getting a visa can be challenging. One of the most complicated parts of the visa process is getting an invitation letter- to get the letter you need to have a sponsor or a hotel in the country’s capital, N’Djamena, who will write it for you. To secure this invitation letter, you have to book a room at a hotel (if you have no other sponsor), and for the reservation, you have to pay the full fee which is non-refundable. This means that if your visa application is rejected your money is lost.

The vast majority of Turkey’s territory is in Asia, but a small part of it is in Europe. Most of Turkey consist of the region known as Anatolia, or Asia Minor. A small part of Turkey, however, is situated in a region known as Thrace, which is the southeast corner of the Balkan Peninsula. This is where you will find part of Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul. Interestingly, however, the origins of the Turkish people are not in their present homeland, but much farther away in East Asia. Nevertheless, Turkey has long played a part in European history. In fact, Turkish territory once stretched deep into Europe during the height of the Ottoman Empire, all the way to the outskirts of what is now Austria’s capital, Vienna. Although Turkey now occupies just a sliver of Europe today, Turkish influence is still visible on the continent. At the same time, Turkey has also adopted many cultural elements of Europe, and has aligned itself with the West politically and economically.

The European Part of Turkey is called Trakya (Thrace), it doesn’t have significant differences from Anadolu (Asia minor, Anatolia) at all. Many Thracians are usually migrants from former Balcan Ottoman provinces, with diverse ethnic backgrounds, although majority of Balcan immigrants are scattered all over Turkey. Edirne has also one of highest gypsy populations in Turkey.

You will see a lot sunflower fields, and in spring poppies everywhere, on hills and plains. The rivers get polluted a lot because of industrial facilities. Edirne had been an Ottoman capital before conquest of Istanbul for almost 100 years, so it bears many splendid examples of Ottoman architecture.

As individuals explore each destination, they often find that they are gorgeous and don’t compare to anything they have ever seen. With so many incredible sights, destinations, towns, and cities, it can be hard to pinpoint what the prettiest place in Switzerland is, but we have attempted to do just that!

A fusion of Italian, French, and German cultures but still with a strong identity of its own, Switzerland makes an alluring travel destination. The landlocked European country is known for its attractive cities, it’s apre-ski chic and famously idyllic mountain scenery complete with cuckoo-clock houses and bell-adorned cows – Switzerland is still a place where you can imagine Heidi skipping through the Alpine meadows!

Autumn's colour palette of reds, oranges, yellows and golds sweeps across the countryside from the end of September, through October, November and into early December. From spectacular woodlands to hills, arboretums and waterways, discover the best places in the UK to see autumn colour.

Forests and woodlands are an obvious place to start. It's hard to beat the sense of magic that you get when you walk beneath the kaleidoscopic canopies of oaks, beeches, birches and sycamore. Look for chestnuts on the floor and squirrels and jays in the branches above. British parks, arboretums and gardens are also great places to visit in October and November, with many boasting statement trees that come into their own at this enchanted time of year. Britain is one of the best places in the world to see the falling autumn leaves as they change from bright green to a kaleidoscopic spectrum of red, orange and yellow.

Grasmere in UK is often called the jewel of the Lake District — and it's easy to see why. During the autumn months, why not take a walk around the glistening lake and soak up the glorious changing colours. This lakeside stroll has fairly level ground, and should only take around two hours to complete.

Right beside the sea, the beautiful Pondicherry – the French capital of India, offers some spectacular tourist attractions. Known for its urban architecture style, Pondicherry is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South India.

White Town is the former French residential area in Pondicherry. Wide streets, old colonial buildings, French street names – everything is carrying an essence of the century-old history of the town. Those old residential houses and mansions are now converted into public offices, libraries, heritage hotels, vintage cafes, upscale shops, and boutiques. The glitter and glamour of the colonial era are long gone, but history is still preserved aesthetically. This is a collection of my best photos from the photo walk in White Town in Pondicherry.

The cheery bougainvilleas and brightly colored walls accompanying the brick-paved lanes of Pondy easily catch the imagination and brings an otherworldly feel. While the rest of the country is struggling to move ahead of time, this quaint little town is rather happy with its colonial ambiance and the laid-back lifestyle. It is a photographer's paradise..

Phuket has evolved into a bustling town full of attractions and entertainment venues. Even though the natural beauty of this place drives a lot of tourists, the buzzing nightlife in Phuket makes it a magnet to many. The areas surrounding the beach have the best options including discos, restaurants, sundowners and great gigs.

Phuket’s nightlife is extremely varied, even if it's best known for being a bit extreme. From wild nightclubs to quiet little beer bars and from dinner shows and sipping a cocktail at a beach bar, it’s all there for those who want it. Of course, Patong is the undisputed nightlife centre of Phuket. From 9 pm every night, the town is buzzing and doesn’t stop until the wee hours.

Kata and Karon have similar, if more modest, nightlife scenes while even Phuket Town boasts a few hopping clubs that cater mainly to locals. Bangtao Beach features classy hotspots but is otherwise a relatively quiet area. Lastly, Rawai, in the south of the island has rapidly developed into a party town.

Women make up half of the world’s population and yet they are still largely excluded from politics and decision-making power. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global organization of national parliaments, released its latest annual Women in Parliament report just a few days before International Women’s Day on March 8, and it indicated that the world is not yet on track to achieve gender equality in politics by 2030.

The good news is that women are steadily taking up more space in governmental leadership around the world, with more and more of them securing seats in national parliaments, and a good number of countries implementing parliamentary quotas to ensure fair representation of women.

1. Rwanda

The East African country is leading the world with 61% of its parliamentary seats occupied by women. Chugong even referred to Rwanda as a role model for the country’s rate of women’s participation in the government.

2. Cuba

With 53% of women taking up parliamentary seats, Cuba remains in the second spot for another year. It is one of two countries from the Caribbean to make it into the IPU’s top 10 — with Grenada not far behind at number eight — and was commended by the union for achieving and maintaining gender parity.

3. United Arab Emirates

The third and final country on the list to have achieved gender equality in parliament — with 50% of parliamentarians being women, compared to just 20% in previous years — is the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The country made an impressive improvement, jumping from 85th in the world in 2019, to third in the world this year. This came as a result of President Sheikh Khalifa calling for women to occupy half the parliamentary seats in 2018.

4. Nicaragua

The report revealed that the Americas are the most commendable global region when it comes to representation of women in politics. Not only does Nicaragua have a high number of women in parliament, women leaders have been instrumental in leading the resistance against the country’s dictatorship.

5. New Zealand

With Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern re-elected as its leader, New Zealand’s parliament became one of the most diverse in the world, representing not only more women, but people of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Ardern herself made history when she became the youngest female leader of a country in 2017; in the presidential election last year she faced off against another woman leader and member of parliament, Judith Collins.

Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, the most revered heritage site and spiritual retreat in Tamil Nadu, moreover it is the face of Tamil Nadu Tourism. The temple has a magnificent charm of its own which captivates every visitor who visits to experience the splendour of this huge pilgrim center. The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Meenakshi [Parvathy] and her consort Lord Shiva worshipped as Lord Sundareswarar. As per the statistical data collected, likely 15,000 devotees visit this holy temple every day, and during the "Thirukalyanam" festival which is the most auspicious occasion of the Madurai Meenakshi Temple, it attracts more than a million visitors. It was a nominee for the "New Seven Wonders of The World".

As far as the story of existence of the Meenakshi Temple goes, it is believed to be Indra who is the king of Devas as per Hinduism laid the foundations of this temple. Once Indra was passing through Madurai while he was on a pilgrimage to reverse his Vikarma [misdeeds], he sensed the presence of the Swayambhu Lingam [self-manifested lingam] nearby and enshrined it by himself.

The exact date of the construction of Meenakshi Temple is not available but it is evident that it has been mentioned in ancient Indian puranic texts, which proves it to be probably a couple of thousand years old. It was completely devastated by the Islamic Ruler of the North, Malik Kafur during the year 1310. It was only during the late 14th century when the Hindu kings came back to power, and restored the temple to its old glory. However the current structure of the temple was built during the period 1623- 1655 CE. The temple structure comprises of 14 Gopurams [temple towers] of each ranging height between 45m- 50m, which include 2 golden Shikaras above the main sanctum. Madurai Meenakshi Temple is world renowned for these spectacular towers in and around the temple, which can be seen from a long distance.

The wonders of the temple are led by the 1000 pillared Mandapam [hall]. Each pillar is exquisitely sculpted which adds more splendour to the temple. Towards the west of this mandapam are the famous Musical Pillars, which produce sounds of varying musical scale when struck. The large water tank within the temple complex, the Potramarai Kulam is another striking feature of the temple. It is surrounded by a few spectacular Murals on the corridor walls which picturises the Shaivite stories of Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam.

All those who have thought Indian one-horned rhinoceros only existed in Jurassic-era, then a trip to Kaziranga is a must for them. One of the most sought after wildlife holiday destinations in India, Kaziranga National park’s 430 square kilometer area sprinkled with elephant-grass meadows, swampy lagoons, and dense forests is home to more than 2200 Indian one-horned rhinoceros, approximately 2/3rd of their total world population. Formed in 1908 on the recommendation of Mary Curzon, the park is located in the edge of the Eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspots – Golaghat and Nagaon district. In the year 1985, the park was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is said when Mary Curzon, the wife of the Viceroy of India – Lord Curzon of Kedleston, visited the park to see Indian one-horned rhinoceros; she wasn’t able to found even one. Then she persuaded her husband to take urgent measures to protect the dwindling species which he did by initiating planning for their protection. After a series of meetings and documentations, the Kaziranga Proposed Reserve Forest was created with an area of 232 km2 (90 sq mi) in 1905.

Along with the iconic Greater one-horned rhinoceros, the park is the breeding ground of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer. Over the time, the tiger population has also increased in Kaziranga, and that’s the reason why Kaziranga was declared as Tiger Reserve in 2006. Also, the park is recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International for the conservation of avifaunal species. Birds like lesser white-fronted goose, ferruginous duck, Baer’s pochard duck and lesser adjutant, greater adjutant, black-necked stork, and Asian Openbill stork specially migrate from the Central Asia during the winter season.

Undoubtedly, the park is known for its good population of animals but more than that its the wildlife conservation initiatives that take place in the park are more popular. With its amazing wildlife conservation activities, the park has successfully managed to grow the population of Greater one-horned rhinoceros, an endangered species. The vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests undoubtedly makes the park look beautiful but it’s the presence of Brahmaputra river, which makes it look enigmatic.

The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), famed for its one-horned rhinoceros, will formally open for tourists from October two for the season 2022-23.

October marks the beginning of the peak tourist season in Jodhpur and RIFF is the first major event that kicks things off. The festival will take place between 6 and 10 October, with concerts, cultural performances, film screenings and more. This is the 13th edition of Jodhpur RIFF, which first began in 2007.

Jodhpur RIFF is a not-for-profit roots music festival endorsed by UNESCO as a "Peoples" Platform for Creativity and Sustainable Development”. Timed to coincide with "Sharad Purnima" the brightest full moon of the year in north India, Jodhpur RIFF features a series of spectacular concerts and events based in and around Mehrangarh Fort, voted "Asia's Best Fortress" by Time Magazine. The festival primarily takes place in Mehrangarh Fort—the most popular tourist attraction in the city. There are also various venues around the fort, including the beautiful Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, Jaswant Thada and Veer Durga Das Memorial Park.

The festival is genre-independent, so you can expect a mix of various kinds of music, both Indian and international. Not many may know that Mick Jagger is the international patron for RIFF. As a result, several international artists, like Manu Chao, Pete Lockett and Maya Kamaty got a platform in India through RIFF. The festival also includes jam sessions with local Rajasthani folk musicians that take place at night.
