In India, there are efforts to tap into the growing potential of astro tourism. Technically speaking, all you need are cloud-free, dark skies without light pollution emerging from the cities. Astro-photographers lead expeditions for photography enthusiasts, while the locals trained in astronomy do the honours in other cases.

Good news for sky watchers! Rajasthan in India has become the first state to launch the night sky astro tourism in all its 33 districts! Jaipur, the royal capital of Rajasthan, alone has four famous star gazing venues including Jantar-Mantar, Amber Fort, University of Maharaja and Jawahar Kala Kendra.

1. Jaisalmer

At the edge of the Thar, Jaisalmer is a city that stands between humanity and the vast undulating desert, making it the perfect travel option. You can see the beautiful forts and architecture in Jaisalmer and enjoy the amazing views of the skies here as well!

2. Barmer

With breathtaking forts and temples, this Rajasthani city offers the best and more exquisite sights of a desert city. Living on the edge of civilisation will have you looking up at the stars. Because it is close to nature and pretty clean, Barmer promises a crystal clear view of the heavens.

3. Sariska
Club your vacations and head to the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary to see some tigers and stars all together. Located in the Alwar district, Sariska offers a natural haven for all those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s only a couple of hundred kilometers away from Delhi NCR, making it the perfect place to look at the skies.
