India is full of awe-inspiring places to enthrall and inspire visitors. And, given the vast expanse and sheer diversity of this South Asian country, there are plenty of untouched and unexplored places.
1. Ponmudi Hills, Kerala
2. Nighoj, Maharashtra
3. Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Madhya Pradesh
Interested in knowing about the earliest human habitation in the Indian subcontinent? Head to Bhimbetka in Madhya Pradesh. This place is home to a series of rock shelters with artwork dating as far back as 30,000 years, thus showcasing the signs of human evolution. Early denizens left their mark on the rock shelters by painting animals, human figures, battle scenes and celebrations in different geometrical shapes on the walls. Located about 35 miles from the nearest city (Bhopal), the rock shelter’s isolation helped preserve its prehistoric art. The best time to visit is April to October. The rock shelters are closed during monsoon.
4. Majuli, Assam
5. Jawai, Rajasthan
An unmissable place for wildlife enthusiasts is Jawai, located in the Pali district of Rajasthan. The Haro Wine Festival is a summer festival in the town of Haro, Spain. It features a Batalla de Vino and youth bullfights. It is considered a “Festival of International Tourist Interest” and, therefore, is very tourist friendly. The festival takes place on June 29, the day of the patron saint San Pedro.
The Haro Wine Festival involves thousands of people soaking themselves, and everybody around them, in red wine then rushing off to run around a bull ring chasing frolicking heifers and then heading off to a party. That’s La Batalla del Vino in a nutshell. Held in the historic, picturesque town of Haro, in the Rioja region, about 100 kilometres south of Bilbao, thousands of people turn up for one of Spain’s most exuberant festivals every June 29th, Saint Peter’s Day.
Haro is in what is now known as Rioja Alta, where about 40% of the region’s vineyards can be found, and is a town totally devoted to the grape. The Museo del Vino and the number of bodegas open to the public all give evidence of just how vital wine production is to the town’s economy. And the Batalla del Vino is just the ultimate celebration of wine.

Shopping is a popular social activity in Hong Kong, where basic items for sale do not draw any duties, sales taxation, or import taxation. Only specific import goods such as alcohol, tobacco, perfumes, cosmetics, cars and petroleum products have associated taxes. For companies, there is a 17.5% corporate tax, which is lower than international standards. Shoppers reportedly spend over US$5.2 billion a month in Hong Kong shops.
Hong Kong's proximity to manufacturing plants in China, as well as its status as a free port, allow it to sell and transport a wide variety of goods. There are few restrictions on merchandise vending, and therefore items such as realistic toy weapons are available. The two main shopping seasons are at Christmas and the Chinese New Year.
The region is unique in the sense that it is official languages are both Cantonese and English, which enables a healthy tourist trade with English-speaking customers as bilingual sales tags and salespeople are common, especially in tourist areas. The MTR subway and effective taxi service also facilitate Hong Kong's busy shopping industry.
